News: "Sorry", Says Laurent Fischer

Nintendo of Europe's managing director of marketing has apologised for comments made about the demographic who are after a storage solution for the Wii.

Laurent Fischer drew more controversy last weekend than Pope Benedict XVI on a fox hunt after making a statement to EDGE regarding Wii's storage. Fischer claimed that only 'geeks and otaku' were concerned by the Wii's current memory capacity, which only served to irritate and anger Nintendo's long-time fans and customers. Plus geeks and otakus.

Today, Fischer issued yet another comment apologising for what was said in the EDGE interview last week. "I have huge respect for those who, like me, share a common passion for Nintendo and want to make it clear that I would never use and I didn't use this terminology in such a context or way to cause offence. I regret that this misunderstanding has created such offence and disappointment within the community."

Fischer also recently awakened the fury within David Jaffe, the creator of the God of War series. As we are a family-friendly website, we'll refrain from posting his comments in full, but know this - he was fairly cheesed off.
