News: Spain Gets Game Named Streets

A new block in Spain gets named after the iconic plumber. With more game related names planned.

While building a new district in the city of Zaragoza in Spain, a vote was held in 2009 as to the theme that the various streets would be named after. After the vote concluded, video games came out on top of the poll. And what's a better name to pick for the first video game street than gamings leading icon?

Super Mario Bros. Avenue is set to be the first street in a planned series to be named in relation to video games, with more game named streets currently planned as development goes on. These street names include "The Sims", "Legend of Zelda", "Tetris", "Space Invaders", "Sonic the Hedgehog", "Arkanoid", "Prince of Persia", "Gran Turismo", "Final Fantasy" and "Samus Aran".

Super Mario Bros. Avenue is still currently in the middle of development, but this never stopped an opening event from taking place to celebrate the new name. Images of the event can be found below.
