Super Monkey Ball Adventures is heading for the PS2, featuring a new genre and developer... Updated! Now confirmed for Cube!
In an unexpected twist, the Official Playstation 2 Magazine has revealed Sega's got a new Super Monkey Ball game in developement, and also confirms its not a standard SMB-style game.
It will be story based, with stages being played out like a platformer, rather than just short puzzles. To reflect this, the game will be developed by Traveller's Tales, the studio who worked on Lego Star Wars.
The game features five themed worlds, each with different types of balls to utilise - for example, wooden for floating through water. The monkeys also get to fly at various points in the game, which we understand will operate a lot like the popular Monkey Target mini-game - which will probably be included separately as the title will apparently feature a raft of mini-games and puzzles as extras.
So here's the bad news - it's not confirmed for GameCube yet. When the Official Playstation 2 Magazine broke the story, it didn't mention any other platforms it would be coming to except PS2 and PSP. However, judging by the Cube's large Monkey Ball fanbase, we think it's a safe bet we'll see a version too. Fingers crossed, and we'll keep you posted.
Update: If you haven't already noticed, Nintendo's Q2 release list has confirmed the game will be coming to Cube, and on June 3rd in Europe to be precise. Great stuff!
