News: StarCraft and Diablo... DS Bound?

Blizzard is asking its fans just how much they would like to see portable versions of their beloved franchises...

Apparently there just may be something to those rumors that StarCraft will be making its way to the DS. In its latest newsletter, the Blizzard Insider, the popular developer of erstwhile PC favorites StarCraft, Diablo and Warcraft (among other hits) asked fans for their interest regarding portable versions of a couple of their massive hits. In particular, Blizzard wanted to gauge interest in a DS (and/or PSP) version of online action/RPG Diablo as well as a Nintendo DS version of RTS fan-favorite StarCraft.

Some gamers may be surprised that such interest is being expressed by a traditionally PC-centric company. However, Blizzard has a history of console development as well as allowing their games to be put on console - including an N64 version of StarCraft. More recently, the company has (perhaps not coincidentally) been dabbling in portable game publishing for the GBA with such SNES ports as Blackthorne and The Lost Vikings.

Numerous fans have argued that a StarCraft RTS of some kind would be perfect for the dual-screened touch-enabled system. Whether or not those hopes will be fulfilled is yet to be determined, but these recent developments have been the most encouraging sign of such a project becoming a reality. Fans, let Blizzard know what you want and whether you think it would be a good idea. Rest assured, C-E will be there to report on any further developments.
