News Super Mario Bros. 2 flies to the top of the charts in Japan

Following on from yesterday's news that the 3DS XL is doing not too badly in Japan, we now have some more concrete figures with the latest Media Create charts.
It will be a surprise to no-one that New Super Mario Bros. 2 made its debut at a distant number one, breezing past 400,000 units sold. It is thought these figures will not include download sales of the game, although Nintendo has said it will make these figures available at some point.
It certainly wasn't the only new release, though. Atlus seems to have found surprising levels of success with a fighting spin-off of Persona 4. The Nintendo-localised version of Just Dance 2 also made a good debut, while we also mustn't overlook Oni Training - the spiritual successor of the smash-hit Brain Training games on DS. It will be very interesting to see what kind of legs that game can manage, and whether it can pull in a more casual audience on 3DS.
Here's the software chart for the week of July 23rd to July 29th.

There's only one story in the hardware chart - the debut of the 3DS XL shoots 3DS numbers sky-high. Interestingly enough, it looks like the redesigned system hardly had any effect on the standard model - the original 3DS sold about 42,000 units in the week, just 2,000 down on the previous week.
