News: Take-Two Not Interested in Wii U Ports

Take-Two Interactive's executive vice president has said they are interested in the Wii U but don't just want to do ports.

With the Wii U offering high definition gaming many expect ports of existing PS3 and Xbox 360 titles to dominate the early software line-up. However, Take-Two will not be engaging in this practice according to executive vice president Karl Slatoff. In an interview with Venture Beat he states that they're not interested in just porting titles over.

Take-Two, famous for publishing titles such as Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption and the recent L.A. Noire, has expressed an interest in working on the Wii U but according to Karl Slatoff they won't be rushing anything out yet. Mr. Slatoff states that they have a great relationship with Nintendo and they are excited by what the console can offer, however don't expect them to just port over their popular titles:

"Let's just assume that everyone is at the same quality level in terms of the high-definition piece. Art work is a significant part of development costs. But we are not interested in the ability to just do straight ports. We are not a big believer in straight ports in general. For us it's more about developing for the specific capability of each machine. We focus on what the platform brings to bear. For us, if you are really going to do good job, look at the platform itself, analyze the capabilities and develop your game to take advantage of those capabilities and that is the best way to address that audience."

While Take-Two has yet to announce any games for Wii U judging from Mr. Slatoff's comments there is a good chance they will take advantage of the unique Wii U controller. We'll keep you updated with any news as it develops.
