News: Tantalus Goes First-Party?
Posted 01 Sep 2003 at 10:35 by Tim Symons
You might know Tantalus, a game development company based in Australia, from games like Men in Black II for the GameCube, and the upcoming Unreal II for the Xbox. If the name Tantalus still does not ring a bell, then that will soon change.
Tantalus recently finished development of Top Gear Rally for the GBA, a title that soon after it was done became an official Nintendo game. Before Tantalus knew it, it had become a Nintendo first-party developer. Kemco was originally going to distribute and publish the title, but Nintendo loved the game so much it started discussing with Kemco the possibility that the game could become an official Nintendo title.
Some time ago, Cube-Europe interviewed Tom Crago, CEO of Tantalus, about the company's GameCube title Men in Black II. In this interview, Tom explained that he liked developing for the GameCube a lot, and he would definitely be interested in doing more for Ninty's console. Thus, it could be that Tantalus might be doing another GameCube title for Nintendo in the future. Who knows, it might be as a first-party developer?
Note that Tantalus develops for the GBA and all the next-gen consoles. It has not been bought out by Nintendo.
We will most certainly keep you updated with any development regarding Tantalus, Nintendo's new buddy.
