News: Team Ninja Talks Dead Or Alive 3DS

Team Ninja's Yosuke Hayashi talks everything from frame rate, breasts and competing against Street Fighter...

Team Ninja will hope that Dead or Alive: Dimensions proves to be the premium fighting game in the 3DS' launch window. It has some stiff competition from Capcom's Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition, but the studio's lead producer Yosuke Hayashi has been keen to talk the game up.

Regarding the game's visual properties, Hayashi confirmed that the game's frame-rate is limited to 30fps with the 3D effect on, while it will run at full 60fps if the player opts to turn the 3D off. On a similar note, Hayashi noted that the eye-strain caused by lengthy 3D play rendered the relatively short battery life of the system a non-issue, as switching the 3D off prolongs the battery life palpably.

Regarding the subject Dead or Alive is perhaps most notorious for, Team Ninja seem to be as uncoy as ever. Hayashi admits "it's really nice to watch female characters in 3D", adding "it gives a different kind of reality to them". He also hinted that the team were providing motion-control-support to make the female characters more, er, interactive.

Finally, the developer spoke about what sets Dimensions apart from its 3DS rival, Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition.

"[Street Fighter is] originally and now a 2D fighting game. But, for us, Dead or Alive is a 3D fighting game - so [Capcom has] a limitation with Street Fighter. As a 3D fighting game we have a lot of possibility, and it is natural to convey it to 3DS."

Dead or Alive: Dimensions is expected to launch soon after the 3DS hits shelves in March.
