Pangya! Golf With Style

News: Tecmo's Revo Golf Game Strictly Solo

The popular Korean online golf game is focusing offline on the Revolution.

In an interview with Famitsu, Keisuke Kikuchi (Tecmo's producer for the upcoming Skatto Golf Pangya Revolution) revealed that the golf title will be dropping the online component that made it popular among Korean PC users. Instead, Kikuchi stressed that Tecmo would be developing a unique offering for Nintendo's new console, focusing on the single player game mechanics which will allow both for signature Revolution motion-detected "move your body" controls and more standard button-based gameplay. He outlined Tecmo's goal of establishing a new golf game standard that centers on three design principles: immersion stemming from actually moving the controller to stroke a shot, expanding on the game world presented in the PC versions, and making the game fun to play in small spurts everyday for a long period of time (shades of Nintendo's DS Touch Generations hits such as Brain Training and Nintendogs?).

The "expanded" Revolution version of Pangya will include plenty of new locales and characters who will each have a playable storyline. Reaching milestones in the game will in turn unlock goodies such as new costumes for your character. Though it is disappointing to lose the online-enabled multiplayer component, Kikuchi was also quick to note that Tecmo intended to pursue downloadable game content if time allowed.

We will have more details on this game as they are released, particularly the chances that this intriguing take on golf will find its way to Western gamers.
