The cult JRPG could be back in future...

Professional critics adored The World Ends With You, and we loved it too. Square Enix and Jupiter gave the JRPG formula a good, modern shake-up with a frantic battle system, a stylish art style and a simply awesome soundtrack by Takeharu Ishimoto.

Anyone joining us in holding out for a sequel may be in luck. Square's Tetsuya Nomura, who worked on character design on the original, had some promising words in an interview with Nintendo Power (via Nintendo Everything).

"I'm really happy that the game was so well received in North America. I definitely want to make a sequel. I'm very busy working on other titles right now, but when the time is right, I would love to make another installment of The World Ends with You."

It should probably be noted that despite Nomura's executive positions in many of Square Enix's latest titles, he only had a comparatively minor role in the development of TWEWY, so probably wise not to put too much money on a sequel on the back of these comments. Still, it's very positive to hear the game performed so heart-warmingly well in the west.
