THQ plan to bring the uDraw gaming tablet to the PS3 and 360 later this year after it sold better than expected on Wii.
THQ saw great success with the release of the uDraw gaming tablet on the Nintendo Wii late last year and they plan to replicate this success with the up and coming PS3 and 360 release. THQ have sold 1.7 million uDraw tablets since it's release in November which is more than anticipated and they hope this is due to gamers desire for new experiences going beyond the realm of motion controls.
THQ plan to release the uDraw tablet across other formats this holiday season though some changes will be made for it's HD debut. Whilst the tablet is aimed at gamers of all ages, THQ noted that the main audience for the Wii version is children. THQ think this could be down to a number of reasons but none more so than the actual design which is rather clunky and reminiscent of Fisher-Price toys. To combat this, the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions are sleek, black and won't require players to attach their controllers to the tablet.
The tablet will also come with a few new features like a touch-screen which can be used by pinching two fingers together which will be used to zoom in and out of your creations in uDraw Studio: Instant Artist. The current Wii version has an RRP of 59.99 whilst the new version has yet to be given an official price but with these extra features and sleeker design, expect it to be slightly higher.
The new uDraw comes bundled with "uDraw Studio: Instant Artist" which will allow gamers to paint and doodle using the stylus or fingers. The game will feature tutorials, games and the ability to share creations online, including on Facebook. Other games will use other features of the tablet, like tilting it to move characters on screen.
THQ CEO Brian Farrel said,
"Things like drawing and creativity and new patterns of gameplay are ubiquitous. If you take a step back and look at Kinect and move (motion-controllers from Microsoft and Sony), they are all about new experiences."
What do you think of THQ releasing the uDraw tablet on other formats? Do any of the new features sound appealing enough to warrant another release? Let us know in the comments section below.
