A brand new 2.5D fighter with an inspired pedigree at the helm? Count us in!

US mag Nintendo Power recently teased the existence of a brand new game based around the famed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe set to release on Wii. But now more details have emerged, we can finally start to get excited.

The unnamed fighting game will be published by Ubisoft and development will be handled by members of the team that worked on the Smash Bros series and former Team Ninja staff. The game will be packed with modes such as Story, Battle Royal, tourneys and of course, 4 player versus. Even more tantalising is the promise that the game will implement a stronger online mode than was seen in Brawl.

An Ubisoft producer made the claim that considering this game is not based on any specific media release, the game would have to stand up to quality standards to be successful. Development on the game started in January 2008, and is currently penned for a release in September 2009.

Here's hoping the game will be a hero in a half-shell, rather than a typically green license game.
