The upcoming game Tony Hawk's Underground 2, will use the DivX technology to fit videos and music on the GameCube disc.
DivXNetworks and Activision announced that all the media featured in the title were compressed using the latest DivX algorithms. In numbers DivX is able to compress the size of videos 7-10 times more than MPEG does but also retain DVD quality.
Jordan Greenhall, CEO and co-founder of DivXNetworks, Inc. stated: "As avid fans of Tony Hawk's Underground, the DivX team is extremely excited about the release of Tony Hawk's Underground 2 and even more stoked that DivX video technology is once again being used to encode cinematic scenes throughout the game. "Neversoft and Activision have created an awesome gaming experience that is a perfect fit with the DivX brand." Also Kevin Mulhall, Producer at Neversoft Entertainment stated: "DivX video is not only the highest quality video technology for in-game cinematics, but it also provides encoding speed and compression not possible with other solutions. We're happy to continue our partnership with the DivX team with the release Tony Hawk's Underground 2."
Now we all hope that developers will adopt the DivX technology, in order to have better quality videos and music in their GameCube games, with less disc space.
