But the developer will need your help...
Independent studio Two Tribes announced the existence of Toki Tori 2 late last year, and has been quietly burrowing away at the community-aided development ever since.
While it was initially left open which platforms outside Steam the sequel would hit, Two Tribes has now confirmed that it is actively seeking to put the game on Wii U's currently-mysterious online platform. It has updated its website, praising Nintendo's recent advancements in the online space with the 3DS eShop, and expresses the desire to get on-board with the Japanese giant's next generation home console.
"People who've followed us in recent years know we're pretty big fans of Nintendo. We've made games for Game Boy, DS and Wii that were released both in shops and on digital services. The first Toki Tori was a launch game for the original WiiWare download service in 2008 and today we've decided that we are going to do everything in our power to make sure Toki Tori 2 graces Nintendo's upcoming HD console as well!"You may wonder why we decided this just now. Nintendo recently released information on their online strategy, which sounds much more robust than before. The 3DS eShop has been a big step in the right direction compared to the Wii and DSi online shops, and it would be strange if they did not at least match it's functionality on Wii U. Since Toki Tori 2 is designed to be a downloadable title, these things are vital to making the correct choice of which platforms to develop for."
The release goes onto muse about possible gameplay ideas, reiterating the plan to have the entire game playable on the Wii U controller screen, and possible plans for a level editor mode.
Two Tribes pledges to do "everything in [their] power" to get Toki Tori 2 on Wii U, and is currently appealing for Nintendo fan support on the studio's Twitter feed.
Toki Tori was originally released on the Game Boy Colour over ten years ago. The puzzle-platformer series has recently been rebooted after a remake launched alongside Nintendo's WiiWare platform.
