News: Ubi Soft's Far Cry

Ubi Soft is expanding its line-up of tactical action/adventure games with a new franchise, Far Cry, a fast paced tactical FPS.

Originally titled Exhile, Far Cry has been in development since December of 1999 by German videogame developer CryTek, which has a team of 40 working on it.

The game features exciting new elements and 3D worlds set in both vast detailed outdoor and indoor areas. Far Cry will showcase the latest AI and Physics-Technologies to recreate the most believable character movements, as well as realtime 3D atmospheric Sound-Rendering to hear their screams, weapon bullets and footsteps as if you were there, in the Game.

"When you kill enemies in the game, they’ll lie dead throughout the entire level, rather than disappearing,” said Jean Berrard Jacon, producer, Ubi Soft Entertainment. “Everything in this game is focused on a living, breathing world. In one sequence, you’ll see a hurricane coming toward the island, and you’ll be able to watch it approach and then destroy the vegetation and objects as it hits the island.

The game is set for a european release in the second half of 2003.
