News: Ubisoft Set to Coach You

Ubisoft have revealed their own entries into the casual market...

Ubisoft have become the latest company to realize the potential of the casual non-gamers market on both Wii and DS and as such have created a new team dedicated to creating casual games, along with expanding the Petz franchise they will also be creating a new series know as My Coach. With two titles announced so far My Word Coach on DS and My Life Coach on Wii.

My Word Coach will appear on DS and help player improve spelling, grammar, vocabulary and their verbal communication skills. Whereas My Life Coach will help people who want to change their life and habits on a day to day basis.

Update: Further gameplay details have have been revealed.

My Word Coach will feature on both Wii and DS and will offer spelling tests. Afterwards is however where this differs from other similar titles such as Brain Training, other titles simply give you your results and leave it at that. My Word Coach however gives your feedback with the ultimate aim of helping you improve your scores.

The tests are also slightly different to anything you may have encountered on other titles. They test things such as your vocabulary asking you to shake the Wiimote in agreement or disagreement if you under and ask you to use an on-screen spray can to correct spelling mistakes. This is all with the ultimate aim of giving you an Expression Points total, this is equivalent of your brain age. The game even gives you examples of how many points certain professions would have, such as 75 points is the level a teacher would expect to get.

The most exciting part of the title however must be Ubisoft's implementation of DS to Wii connectivity. The DS can be used as a input device for the Wii version allowing you for example to type in missing letters in one of the tests. The input is lag free and seamless as the letters appear on your TV as you type them on the DS and best part of all you do not need the DS version of the game to take advantage of this feature.

Finally the Wii version also includes simultaneous four player (Nintendo take note after Brain Academy Wii Degree and its lackluster multiplayer) including a simple game where all the players are given a description of a word and have to pick the correct meaning from a choice. The DS version also offers multiplayer with a play on Tetris with words. The game seems perfect in fitting with the Wii's blend of both traditional casual and hardcore gamers and will surely stand out as a worthy addition to Ubisoft's Wii portfolio.
