News: Video On Demand Coming To Wii

On demand video distribution is coming to Wii in Japan - and in the West too!

Nintendo plans to launch a video on demand distribution service in Japan next year, and then later internationally as well, according to Reuters. Anime and other entertainment created for the service will need to be purchased (most likely via Wii Points), while other videos will be available for free with advertising.

Wii gamers in the UK can already access the BBC's iPlayer service for free, which provides a catch-up service for BBC programmes allowing them to be watched on demand.

Details are still scarce on the ground as to what Nintendo are exactly going to be offering with this new scheme, but it all sounds very interesting.

We'll keep you updated with the latest as it breaks.
