News: Virtual Console Releases - 13.04.07

Square Enix take their first step into the world of downloadable retro classics.

It's that magical time of the week once again, the time when Nintendo digs up forgotten gaming masterpieces (and sometimes flops) and give them a breath of life by uploading them to the Wii Shop Channel server for our gaming pleasure. This week, Nintendo are nowhere to be seen. The three titles this week are all from third party developers, which makes a nice change.

First up this week is ActRaiser, a bizarre mix of action, platforming and life simulation created by RPG legend Square Enix. Originally released on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993 for Europe, ActRaiser is highly regarded as one of the best games the SNES had to offer. ActRaiser costs 800 Points.

Next up is Bonk's Revenge, a sequel to the best-selling platformer Bonk's Adventure on the Turbografx. Bonk's Revenge follows the grumpy caveboy's quest to recover half of the moon (yes, you read that correctly) from the evil Tyrannosaurus Rex lord, King Drool. First released in 1991 and later on the Game Boy, Bonk's Revenge is now available for 600 Points.

The last game this week is the port of the arcade classic, Pac-Man, released on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993. Pac-Man is easily one of the most recognised game franchises of all time, and the little yellow sphere has seen more pill collecting outings than Pete Doherty. The concept of the game is simple: run around the onscreen maze, eat the ghosts and eat all the pills. Namco's little goldmine is now available on the Virtual Console for 500 Points.

Stay tuned for the new VC Weekly and find out whether you should get these games.
