Lylat Wars (starfox 64)

News: Virtual Console Releases - 20.04.07

Fox McCloud hits the European servers in a belated look at the newest Virtual Console releases.

It's all about Nintendo this week (technically last), as two heaping servings of retro goodness are force-fed down your broadband lines. The Virtual Console, the source of retro wonders for Nintendo fans and Wii owners, has offered gamers their fourth downloadable Nintendo 64 game in the form of Lylat Wars, otherwise known as Star Fox 64. Direct your attention to below to find out more about this Nintendo classic... and an educational Donkey Kong game.

Lylat Wars, a game that hundreds, and possibly even thousands, of gamers hold fond memories of from the N64 days. Originally bundled with the Rumble Pak (a feature which has been scrapped from the VC version), Lylat Wars contained smooth animation, wonderfully detailed levels and space environments, and allowed you to pick your own path and make choices as you progress in the game, a feature included in the recent DS installment Star Fox Command. Lylat Wars is available now for 1000 Wii Points.

Donkey Kong Jr. Math. An edutainment NES game created by Nintendo, the game saw you swinging your way through levels as the son of Donkey, attempting to solve mathematical puzzles and equations to progress. It may not sound very exciting compared to Lylat Wars, but there's a two player mode to tide you over aswell, giving you the chance to thrash your friends in an intellectual game other than Brain Training. Donkey Kong Jr. Math is available now for 500 Wii Points.

Check out Sam's reviews of these two retro gems in VC Weekly #9.
