We present screenshots and plot information for Wario Land: The Shake Dimension, including the return of Maple Syrup!

Wario is returning to his 2D platforming roots in Wario Land: The Shake Dimension, out this September in Europe, and the first game in the Wario Land subseries since 2001. Outside of Europe & Australia, the title is being launched as Wario Land: Shake It! - and no, we're not really sure why the name was changed.

Wario must race old adversary Captain Maple Syrup, the female pirate, to a hidden world in its time of crisis to save the day - but only in exchange for bags of treasure. The story of the game will be told through anime cutscenes.

This time round, the smelly, bad-mannered nemesis of Mario is controlled with the Wii-mote turned sideways like an old-school controller which will add to the retro feeling to the title. You must run, jump and smash their way through hectic side-scrolling stages, with players shaking the Wii Remote to help Wario take down his enemies, empty bags of treasure or cause earthquakes.

Apparently the title's stages offer multiple missions to keep players coming back again and again to unlock everything, collect more coins or improve their best times. The first couple of shots are below:
