Grab your virtual jet skis as Wave Race 64 hits the Wii's Virtual Console.
Another month, another Nintendo 64 game added to the Virtual Console's already fantastic library of games. This week, those lucky Yanks have been treated to a trio of tremendous treasures including Wave Race 64, Galaga '90 and Adventures of Lolo. Read on to find out more about these titles.
First up is Wave Race 64 (originally released on the Nintendo 64 if you didn't already guess) which was released in Europe in 1997. Shigeru Miyamoto once said that this game utilised 80% of the 64's horsepower, and it remains one of the most advanced N64 games to this day due to accurate and realistic wave physics. Wave Race 64 also includes Championship, Warm Up, Time Trials, Stunt Mode and 2 Player Versus modes with a wide variety of jet skis and characters to choose from. On a side-note, the game's code has also been changed as Nintendo no longer holds the rights to advertise Kawasaki Heavy Industries on the jet skis and in-game banners, and so these advertisements have been replaced with adverts for the Wii and Nintendo DS Lite. The fact that the game code has been changed brings hope for anyone hoping to see games that weren't previously released in English or in a PAL format. Wave Race 64 is available now in America for 1000 Wii Points (European release date TBA).
Galaga '90, originally released on the Turbografx, is a space shooter that expands on the Space Invaders formula. An armada of insect-like enemy ships descends upon you (and an optional second player) and it's your job to take out the intergalactic slime. In the words of Will Smith, can you wait to get out there and whoop ET's ass? Galaga '90 is available now in America for the price of 600 Wii Points.
Adventures of Lolo was originally released on the NES in 1991 (and has been out on the European Virtual Console since June 8th). Your job as Lolo in this cute little puzzler is to sneak into the castle of your enemies and free the kidnapped princess. You must collect all the heart pieces in a room and quickly escape before you are captured by your ever-vigilant opponents. Adventures of Lolo is available now in America and Europe for 500 Wii Points.
We'll let you know what titles are coming to European shores in this Friday shortly...
