News: Why Sonic Generations Isn't Wii Bound

Now that we know Sonic Generations is coming to the 3DS it begs the question 'why not the Wii?'

Following yesterday's confirmation that Sonic Generations is being released on the 3DS some more details about the game have been announced courtesy of Nintendo Power.

In their interview with Takashi Iizuka they ask him why Sonic Generations isn't coming out on the Wii considering how successful Sonic Colours was, given that it was the biggest selling Sega title last year. Mr. Iizuka responds by saying Sonic Generations was designed to re-imagine the game's zones in high-definition graphics and "Wii hardware wasn't a good fit for that concept, so we abandoned development on that".

In response to this Sega decided to focus on the 3DS version of the game instead to ensure Nintendo gamers could still enjoy the game. When asked he also suggested that Mario and Sonic would only come together for Olympics titles, reiterating comments from other Sega employees that a crossover adventure title is unlikely.
