News: Wii Firmware Updated, Homebrew Targeted

Nintendo releases Wii firmware version 4.2 around the world, firmly targeting homebrew gamers...

It's pretty standard form now that new system updates from Nintendo include anti-"homebrew" (home-made applications and games for the Wii, as opposed to those bought or downloaded officially) parts to it. What sets this new firmware update apart from any previous is the scope of what it will delete if you have it on your system...

While previous updates left the Homebrew Channel loader alone, this update deletes the Channel completely, along with any Homebrew programs it finds on your Wii, including popular apps BootMii and DVDX.

Considering the speed at which new exploits are regularly found to work around firmware updates, it does seem like Nintendo's approach is one that will never work for long. Should Nintendo give up the battle against homebrew? Let us know your thoughts below.

Apart from all this, the update is supposed to improve the overall performance of the Wii. Has anyone seen any noticeable difference? Again, let us know...
