News: Wii Launched In The USA!

Nintendo's new approach to the console market hits America.

The Nintendo Wii has finally hit North America. Although sales figures have not become available yet, CNN are reporting that the launch night has gone pretty smoothly.

In Times Square, gamers were in their thousands lining up for the new wonder-machine. According to CNN: "The first buyer, Isaiah "Triforce" Johnson, had been waiting in line outside the store for more than a week. He wore a Nintendo Power Glove, a wearable controller that came out in 1989, while shaking hands with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime after buying the first Wii."

It has also become apparant that Isaiah has changed his middle name to a more Zelda-influenced word. Ah, this takes us back to the days of Acclaim's Turok marketing.

Launching right after the much-vaunted and technically sophisticated PlayStation 3 is a brave move for Nintendo, which is playing catch-up after losing dominance of the home console market to Sony in the mid-90s.

We'll have more to bring you on this later, including sales figures when they come in.

But, for now, we wish all you American Wii owners out there the best of luck and enjoyment with your new console. It won't be long before we join you!
