With DS not far behind PS2's figure. Head inside for some big numbers...

UK retailer GAME recently gave thier annual financial presentation, and along with some tasty profits came the total UK sales to date for all major video game consoles on the market.

Wii is far ahead in the home console race, clocking up sales of 4.9 million since launch in December 2006. The year-older Xbox 360 has racked up 3.2 million units sold, while PS3 currently sits at 1.9 million.

On the handheld front, DS stands tallest with total UK sales of 8.8 million since March 2005. Sony's PSP sits starkly behind with a mere 3.2 million sold. With the recent release of DSi, figures for Nintendo DS are looking to rise as swiftly as ever, edging ever closer to the 10 million milestone that PS2 has set since its 2000 release.

With the UK game market growing as fast ever, it can only mean good things for PAL gamers who have previously suffered long years of release turmoil. Or so we hope.
