News: Wii Overtakes 360 In Germany

The Wii begins its assault on the Xbox 360's global lead in the console war...

As we reported earlier this week, the Wii has been projected to over-take the sales of the Xbox 360 (despite the latter having been out a year longer than Nintendo's machine) worldwide sometime this Autumn. However in Germany, where the current hardware sales numbers are even more skewed in Nintendo's favour, this has already happened!

For July, the Wii sold 26,000 units, compared to just 8,000 for the PS3 and 5,000 for the 360. Totalling these up now means that overall, the Wii has sold 291,000 in eight months and the Xbox 360 281,000 in more than double that. The PS3 lags with sales of 99,500 in total since March.

Could this be the way of things to come? Analysts are certainly thinking so.
