The Wii continues to surpass records! This time it's the turn of most games sold in the first 18 months on sale.

At yesterday's Electronic Gaming Summit in California, Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's Executive Video President of Sales and Marketing, said the Wii has beaten the record for the most software units sold in the first 18 months of a console being on sale. It was the PS2 that previously set the record of 42 million units, but now the Wii sits comfortably atop the chain with the big 50 million software sales.

"While we appreciate the impact the PlayStation 2 had on sales and the industry, perhaps we are even more impactful" said Dunaway, inventing a new word! We couldn't agree more however, as it was later revealed by Kotaku that the sales figures don't count Wii Sports (packaged with the console as you're no doubt aware) or Virtual Console titles.
