News: Wii Sales Near 1 Million Mark

According to Japanese Magazine Publishers Enterbrain, Wii sales have almost reached the 1 million unit milestone.

2006 was an all-round great year for Nintendo. The DS sold strongly in Japan and Europe, and they launched their new home system, the Wii.

We're barely into 2007, but it looks like Nintendo are already nearing the 1 million sales mark for the Wii in Japan.

According to Enterbrain's survey, which covered 3500 stores, 989,118 Wii units were sold between console launch on December 2 and January 7.

Phenomenal numbers so far, but how is the competition doing? Are sales neck and neck with the Playstation 3?

Hmm, not quite. Whilst Nintendo have had problems supplying their new systems to retailers, Sony have also had this problem too, but on a somewhat bigger scale.

After the release of the system on 11th November, and after many, many stock shortages, sales are around 466,716 units. However, we expect sales to rise once Sony are able to meet retailer demands more easily.

Positive way to start the New Year, now lets just hope they can keep churning out systems to retailers.
