News: Wii Sales Strong In US

It's looking likely that the initial 1.2m estimate has been reached...and possibly even exceeded!

Sales for the Nintendo Wii appear to be strong in the US, according to analyst Lazard Capital.

It was initially predicted that Nintendo would shift 1.2 million units in the US, but it looks like sales have passed that.

"Our checks indicate that Nintendo's Wii console continues to sell well, while Sony's PS3 supplies improved somewhat towards the end of the holiday period," said Colin Sebastian of Lazard Capital.

The company also predicts that Microsoft will have shifted roughly 4.5 million 360s, which is an accomplishment given the competition that they were having from two new consoles. Sony, despite getting off to a staggered start, will have sold around 700,000 units.

The race for the prize has begun, but can Nintendo keep the momentum going?
