2006 was an overall great year for Nintendo. The DS saw high sales in all territories, and we also saw the launch of the Wii.

Now, Nintendo have more success to add to the list, with the news that the Wii was the most searched-for word on Amazon.co.uk.

Despite only being released in December, a total of around 300,000 searches were made for Wii during one week during the holidays.

It doesn't just end there, as they also saw some success on the DS front. Brain Training was the best selling game on Amazon.co.uk in 2006, with Lego Star Wars II and The Sims 2: Pets following in second and third place. Animal Crossing: Wild World and New Super Mario Brothers were also big sellers, which rounded off a fantastic year for the Japanese Giants.

An Amazon statement read, "As systems such as the Nintendo Wii and DS expand the appeal of gaming beyond the traditionally perceived audience of teenage boys, sales of videogames on Amazon.co.uk are reflecting a real change in the types of games Brits want. 2006 saw top-selling violent games of the past, such as Grand Theft Auto and Medal of Honour, replaced by more family-friendly titles with broader appeal."
