Nintendo has announced that its new video download Wii Channel will hit May 1st in Japan... Full details inside.

The Wii is to get a video download service courtesy of the free Wii no ma Channel, which is launching in Japan on May 1st. Supported by advertising, it is a joint venture from Nintendo and Japanese media firm Dentsu.

Up to eight Mii characters can be registered for the service, which appears on screen like a virtual lounge for your Miis to watch video content in. Promotional videos and original content will be featured, while an upcoming DSi app named Dokodemo (also available May 1st) will allow your content to be downloaded for portable viewing. Sch-weet!
