News: Wii Vitality Ideas Coming

Months on from E3 2009, and Nintendo's secret new peripheral is still a mystery. But apparently Nintendo are hard at work on the device...

This year's largest gaming event - E3 2009 - saw Nintendo president Satoru Iwata mysteriously unveil the Wii Vitality Sensor, a brand new add-on for the Wii Remote... and then reveal absolutely nothing about it. Its purpose is still officially a mystery, and any games it will support are presumably still under-wraps.

Despite The Times recently revealing the device used a tiny light sensor to measure blood flow in your hand, all potential uses for the peripheral remain speculative. A horror game which reacted to your increasing pulse has often been cited. But what do Nintendo really have up their sleeves?

Step up Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo game designer extraordinaire, who has now stated Nintendo should have shown off software that used the device at E3, rather than keep it so hush-hush:

"Ideally we would have been able to talk about this in terms of the software implementation rather than just the sensor itself. I don't have any indication for you (of what we have in the works) other than to say that we have lots of very creative ideas."

When will Nintendo see fit to reveal all? N-Europe will keep you posted on the latest.
