Reports are going around about WiiConnect24 overheating problems. It isn't as bad as you think...
Reports are going round about a overheating problem with WiiConnect24, causing damage to the GPU.
The problem is caused due to the Wii generating heat while in WiiConnect24 mode - it uses a low amount of power, and only causes heat because the system's fan isn't on in this mode. As with all consoles, a small percentage of Wii's contain faulty GPUs which are affected by this heat.
Most systems won't be affected by this heat, which in itself is rather minimal compared to heat produced by equipment like notebook computers. Nintendo will fix/replace any systems affected by the damaged GPU's caused by this, as well as transfer over your Wii Points and Virtual Console data. You'll need to re-download Virtual Console games, but the ones you have already purchased will be free to download.
