Everyone's favourite destructive annelids are coming back onto the Wii in an exclusive new title.

A bunch of little worms have once again answered the call to arms and are getting ready to blow each other up on Worms: Battle Islands, due out exclusively on the Wii later this year. The title was previously announced for WiiWare and the Sony PSP some time ago but it seems that it has been upgraded to a full retail release. No news has emerged on whether it is still coming out on the PSP however.

Team 17's newest entry into the long-running franchise offers Wii gamers the chance to play 30 single-player missions, 30 puzzle challenges and five different multiplayer modes. Best of all these can all be played online!

The Worms franchise is well known for its comically destructive arsenal and this title will be no different. There will be 40 different weapons on hand and you will be able to create your own arsenal within the game's weapon factory to really customise your gameplay.

As usual you will be able to customise your team names, worm names, voice styles, create levels and a whole host of other customisable aspects that the franchise is known for. A trailer for the game can be found below.
