News: WWE Wii Screenshots

The wrestling title heads to Wii, screenshots and control info inside...

We now have some new images of WWE SmackDown! vs Raw 2008. The developers say that the main feature for this year is "putting control back into the player’s hands.", which means less focus on button mashing, and flashing HUD metres.

As you guessed it, the Wii version of the title has you waving around, pulling moves off with Remote Gestures. In the current preview version, simple slaps and hits are done by waving the Remote around - a variety of hits are available. Players get into grapples with a simple button press, both players then have to shake wildly to see who "wins" the grapple, then allows the player to perform special moves with Wii Remote and Nunchuck combo movements. Lift both into the air, you can walk around (Analogue Stick) with the other player above your head, then slam the Remote down for a chokeslam. On-the-rope moves also allow more fluid combos, you can punch as much as you can then swipe down for a mighty last strike.

Gestures are even used for taunting. When the other player is on the floor, you can perform famous taunts like the “DX crotch chop” yourself with the Remote and Nunchuck, and the on-screen wrestler will perform the taunt too. These controls aren't final, but they give a good indication of what to expect.
