Tech company X-OOM reveal plans to turn the Wii into a multimedia device capable of streaming content from your PC. Details inside...
X-OOM, third-party manufacturers of a variety of gadgets for PCs and consoles, are launching a Media Centre for Wii that will allow your console to stream movies, music and picture files directly from a PC via Wi-Fi.
Watching movie files and listening to music via the Wii is something Nintendo avoided including themselves (apart from the rudimentary features of the Wii's built in Photo Channel). The X-OOM Media Centre's built in software allows easy access to your PC's files from your Wii. File types supported include: MP3, WMA, OGG, DivX, XviD, MPEG 2, MPEG 4, WMV, JPG and BMP.
The device is designed to negate the need for memory cards, or streaming data directly from the Internet. Another feature is that the Media Centre will also provide access to 1000s of Web TV channels and radio stations.
Will the Media Centre be a success? The device will be available for 29.99 from www.X-OOM.com and Amazon this November. We'll be keeping an eye...
