News: Zelda 25th Anniversary Event

Visit a real Hyrulean market village, win an ocarina, take part in a speed run and more!

Are you such a dedicated Zelda fan that watching a live orchestra, playing an all new adventure and wielding a gold Wii-remote just isn't enough of a celebration? Well in that case, you need to get yourself down to Nottingham this October.

On Saturday 29 October, videogame festival GameCity will be playing host to the Zelda Anniversary Takeover Day in Nottingham which is set to be brimming with all things Zelda.

The event will be taking place in Nottingham's Old Market Square which is set to be transformed into a Hyrulean market village for the day. In the village you will be able to play Link's upcoming skyward adventure as well as enjoying some of the activities. Don't stay out too late though as the place will become over run with yapping dogs, something that has plagued the citizens of both Nottingham and Hyrule for years.

This event is brimming with Zelda activities including how to play the Ocarina, creating your own sword/shield combo and relaxing at the LonLon Milk bar - Don't forget to take an empty bottle or two!

By completing these activities (though I can't imagine completing 'relax in the Lon Lon Milk bar' will be all that challenging) you will be awarded pieces of a Triforce which will help you to complete the 'Hero's Quest'.

After you have learnt to play the Ocarina you can join in with the Ocarina Orchestra and try your hand at recreating classic tunes from the franchise. If you take part in the Ocarina Orchestra you will get a limited edition Zelda branded ocarina which is sure to be worth quite something in the years to come.

GameCity runs from the 25th October and in the build up to the Zelda Anniversary Takeover Day, fans are being invited to contribute to a fanzine which will be created and designed by the public. You can submit anything like artwork, poetry or even a short story. A limited run of the fanzine will be printed and made available on Saturday, the day of the Zelda event.

If you're the type of person who likes to gloat about such events then why not record a short video diary whilst there? The National Videogame Archive will be offering fans the chance to record their thoughts and experiences from Zelda - Even those suppressed memories about the time you dressed up as Tingle and took pictures for your internet friends.

Finally, you'll be able to take part in the Zelda Canon Speed Run. GameCity are on the hunt for savage gamers who are so expertly familiar with the Zelda franchise that they can complete the games in record breaking time. If selected, you will be part of a tag team attempting to complete 15 games in the Legend Of Zelda series beginning with The Legend Of Zelda and ending with Twilight Princess. Just hope that when you are in the tag team you aren't responsible for completing the Triforce Hunt from Wind Waker.

If you want to be part of the team then head over to ONM for more information on how to join - The speed run is expected to last over 100 hours, gnarly indeed.

What do you think of the event and will you be attending? As always, let us know in the comments section below.
