News: Zelda Wii To Get DLC?

Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma talks about the possibility of multiplayer, and DLC for Zelda: Skyward Sword!

While Zelda titles have focused on delivering some of the finest single-player gaming experiences to grace any console, series producer Eiji Aonuma has revealed that a more multiplayer-driven approach could be on the cards in the future.

Speaking to GameInformer, he commented that "having people play together is a theme that's always stuck in my mind, but it's about trying to create what would work best for Legend of Zelda." The Zelda series has featured multiplayer before, notably in Zelda: Four Swords for the GameCube, but to limited success.

Instead, a different approach could be taken, one sounding almost similar to communal life sim Animal Crossing:

"Let's say a player does something in their game that affects an area, and then that is communicated back to another system, and that would introduce new elements to your game. I find that sort of communication really interesting."

These multiplayer options will not be implemented in upcoming Wii Zelda title Skyward Sword, although something Aonuma is considering for the game is DLC. Cryptically, he stated: "we have thought about DLC, and we are thinking about it."
