Nintendo announces the New Nintendo 2DS XL

Nintendo have announced a new entry in the Nintendo 2DS range of consoles: new Nintendo 2DS XL.

Catchy names aside, this new hardware revision of the ever-growing 3DS range has two large 2D screens, the classic clamshell design of other 3DS systems (unlike the large slab that is the original 2DS) and the extra processing power found in the 'new Nintendo 3DS' meaning this system will be able to play the likes of Xenoblade and SNES Virtual Console titles as well as enjoy improved performance for future titles such as Fire Emblem Warriors.

The system will be available in the UK on 28th July in two colours, "Black and Turquoise" and "White and Orange" with a price of $149 in the US which is around £115 in the UK.

The video below shows off the new sleek design and colour variations.

Nintendo plan to continue supporting the 3DS with new titles throughout the year with games such as Hey! Pikmin and Miitopia, as well as promising more titles at E3 and a mystery Kirby game this Winter.
