Cooped up among all the headline Nintendo Direct news for 3DS and Wii U eShop and retail was the announcement that Zen Pinball 2 will be the first 'freemium' game for Wii U when it releases later this month.

Zen Pinball 2 will be made availble to download on the Wii U eShop for free. This will let you play some basic trials for the various tables on offer. From there on in, you choose which tables you want to purchase as DLC.

The game's strength is being billed as its massive selection of tables - which include ones from the Marvel universe, and some special ones like Plants vs Zombies - and its robust online leaderboards. Check out how the game looks on Wii U in the official trailer.
