Nintendo Gamer finishes after 20 years

Nintendo Gamer, which started out in 1992 as Super Play, is to close after next weeks issue.
In its 20 years on shop shelves the magazine has covered every Nintendo event you can think of from the dizzying heights of Ocarina of Time, the unsurpassed excitement leading up to the Wii and the unprecedented passion that us hardened Nintendo fans felt even in the darkest of GameCube days.
The magazine was not only famed for it's fantastic reviews and coverage but also (and perhaps more so) for its great humour and in-jokes. From their huge office-made Mario Galaxy planet, their hatred (and love in equal measure) of Cammie Dunaway and the Wii Wheel that was "Worth Seven Pounds!", Nintendo Gamer made for some hilarious reading which you couldn't find anywhere else, natch.
But every cloud has a silver lining and whilst we may be leaving a great magazine behind, the legacy will live on through their website which is set to carry on after the magazines closure. The staff left a message explaining the situation and the future of the website which you can read here.
The issue is set to hit shops on 6th September whilst subscribers will get the magazine tomorrow. The last issue will feature a celebration of the last 20 years of the magazine with guest appearances from past writers to give it the great sendoff it deserves.
Will you be getting the final magazine? I plan to spend most of tomorrow pouring over every last morsel before crying into my deadly ice cube tray. I might even play Red Steel.
