Nintendo officially discontinues Wii production

Nintendo has officially announced that factory production in Japan of the Wii console has been discontinued.

The little white box of wonders went on sale worldwide at the end of 2006 and, despite being criticised for being underpowered compared to rival systems, went on to significantly outsell Sony and Microsoft's consoles, shifting over 100 million units.

Needless to say, it also gave us some sterling games that can claim to be among the best the generation can offer.

That said, there's nothing to indicate new games won't be released for the near future - Wii vesions of big franchises like Skylanders SWAP Force and Just Dance launched within the last month.
