Nintendo has used its latest investor briefing to divulge the first details of new technology it plans to develop as part of its 'Quality of Life' project.
The first such product will be one to help with sleep and alleviate fatigue. It appears to be a sensor that sits by your bedside and can measure things ranging from body movements to breathing patterns. It will continuously upload data to a 'QOL' cloud server, which will feedback with visual indications on your other devices (Nintendo systems, smartphone, etc) of your sleep patterns and provide suggestions for how to improve.
This specific project will be undertaken with western firm ResMed, who will likely be responsible for developing the sleep sensor hardware, with Nintendo developing the cloud software.
The wider Quality of Life philosophy will likely expand into all kinds of health-related services, and the sleep and fatigue sensor will just be the first step of that expansion; expected in 2016.
That said, it appears that, unlike Nintendo recent efforts to grab the so-called 'non gamer' audience, this is one venture that will remain fully separated from Nintendo's video game pursuits on Wii U and 3DS.
