Nintendo reconfirms NFC plans, will show game and figures at E3

Nintendo has re-iterated its plans to outline its vision for near-field communication on Wii U at this year's E3.

NFC technology, which allows devices to read data off small items like credit cards and figurines, is included in the Wii U GamePad, but has not yet been utilised by Nintendo.

Speaking to investors, president Satoru Iwata announced NFP - NFC Featured Platform, or Nintendo Figurine Platform - which appears to use a smiliar strategy to Activision's lucratice Skylanders franchise.

Iwata's presentation showed a Mario figurine, which could be used to transfer data across numerous Wii U games. NFP will also be used on 3DS thanks to the handheld's IR reader.

The first NFP game and figurine will be revealed at E3. Nintendo's main event will be streamed on June 10th.
