Nintendo releasing Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System

We may not be getting the NX this year, but that does not mean 2016 will be without some new (old) Nintendo hardware.

In a surprise move, Nintendo has announced the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System.  The pocketsized NES console will come with 30 games preloaded when it launches on November 11th.

The package comes with the console, a Nintendo Classic Mini: NES Controller, a HDMI and a USB power cable but does not come with a power adaptor for the USB cable.  It is unclear yet whether you can plug it into a USB connection in your television if it has one in the same way that Google's ChromeCast works, although it does state an adaptor is "required" so it seems unlikely.

The Nintendo Classic Mini: NES Controller can be used for Wii and Wii U Virtual Console titles by plugging it into the Wii Remote.  Separate controllers will be sold for multiplayer fun.

The games will also contain multiple restore points, meaning you won't have to be completely retro and rely on passwords to continue progress at a later date.

Nintendo has not set a price for the console, presumably leaving it up to retailers again.  However, the North American press release lists the console as $60 and controller at $10.  We'll keep you updated as we hear more.

The thirty games are as follows:

  • Balloon Fight
