Nintendo Reveals Gamecube Adapter for Wii U ahead of Smash Bros Tournament

Nintendo America have made use of a Super Smash Bros tournament trailer to share a new piece of hardware with us! We think the image speaks for itself, but if you're not quite getting it, that's a four way adapter for the Wii U, which will allow it to accept Gamecube Controllers in much the same manner as the original Wii.<div align="center"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en-gb"><p>Get excited! The <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23WiiU&amp;src=hash">#WiiU< version of <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23SmashBros&amp;src=hash">#SmashBros<. will be playable with GameCube controllers. <a href="http://t.co/nmyj9QMsuU">pic.twitter.com/nmyj9QMsuU<<

The image also suggests brand new Smash Bros. branded Gamecube controllers to appear at the same time. We're holding our breath for the return of "Spice" orange.

If this reporter could be so bold as to throw out a wishlist, the only features he would've asked for on top of this would be built in Wavebird receivers (in case you, like he, have lost more than one over the years). And perhaps for it to have been released in time for Mario Kart 8.

That aside, this is still a very welcome accessory for those of us already thinking ahead to local multiplayer solutions for Super Smash Bros.
