Nintendo has begun to send out development kits for its next-generation system - code-named 'NX' - according to the Wall Street Journal.

The report suggests that the console - still very much shrouded in mystery - could be on course for a release some time in 2016. Nintendo has maintained that it will not divulge solid details about its new dedicated gaming system until next year.

Regarding the power of the system, the report's sources stated that Nintendo "would aim to put industry-leading chips" into the system.

In semi-related news, Nintendo today launched a brand new online portal for third-party developers. It will replace the old 'warioworld.com' portal.
