Nintendo of America has announced that it sold over 2.65 million hardware units in the region during December, with Nintendo 3DS sales accounting for nearly half that total.
3DS sold over 1.25 million units in the month, putting its life-time sales in North America past 7.7 million - which remarkably means it is still out-pacing the record-breaking Nintendo DS. DS itself shifted nearly 470,000 units, putting its life-time sales at over 53 million units.
Wii U sold over 460,000 units in the month, putting its year-end sales at almost 890,000 in the region. In the same period at the end of 2006, Wii had managed more sales, but sales revenue for Wii U has beaten its predecessor, with $300m in sales compared to $270m. Meanwhile, Wii sold nearly 475,000 last month, and crossed 40.8 million units sold in its life-time.
Nintendo also announced that New Super Mario Bros. 2 for Nintendo 3DS has become the fourth 3DS game to pass the million mark in North America - it stands at 1.45m in the region.
Meanwhile, Wii U launch title New Super Mario Bros. U had sold 580,000 units by the end of the year, putting its attach rate with Wii U at an impressive 65 percent.
