Nintendo Switch has strong start in America, Zelda's attach rate over 100%

The Nintendo Switch launched worldwide at the start of March and now we've seen a whole month of the console on shelves and Nintendo has a lot to celebrate.

According to NPD sales data the Nintendo Switch sold 906,000 units, making it the best performing console launch for Nintendo in the region and one of the biggest console launches ever, made especially impressive given March is typically a quieter month.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild also managed to sell 925,000 units for the Switch alone, meaning more copies of the game were sold than consoles purchased.  Presumably this is a combination of fans buying both versions and European fans importing the better special edition.  The Wii U version also did very well, selling 460,000 units.

Nintendo has the potential to keep up this success in the coming months if they can keep shipping consoles.  Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is due out on April 28th, ARMS on June 16th and Splatoon 2 on July 21st.
