Nintendo Switch online details expected after launch

The official Nintendo website states that we'll have to wait until after the system launches to hear more about online services.
The Nintendo Switch event earlier in the month gave us a bunch of information to digest such as launch games, joy-con features and what to expect from the hardware itself but one area that Nintendo were particularly cagey about was the online services they'd be providing.
We were given vague promises of a paid service in the fall, with brief statements about what to possibly expect but no concrete details on pricing or features. Given the lack of information, many have been hoping for a Nintendo Direct before launch to address these issues but sadly it seems that we'll be left in the dark for some time yet.
Nintendo has stated that more details about the online service should be expected after the system launches, not great news for early adopters or those who are avid online gamers interested in the Switch.
What we do currently know is that voice chat will be handled via an app later in the year and that there will be a free service after launch for a short period.
For now, you'll have to hang tight and be sure to check back in with us after launch for more details about the online services.
